A Blackstone grill with sizzling pancakes, eggs, and bacon

Blackstone

These juicy, crispy-edged smash burgers are a crowd-pleaser and perfect for cooking on your Blackstone grill. The flat-top surface ensures even cooking and a delicious sear, while the simplicity of the recipe lets the flavors shine.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 burgers 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)

  • 4 hamburger buns

  • 4 slices of American cheese

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for griddle)

  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Blackstone Grill: Turn on your Blackstone grill to medium-high heat and let it preheat for 10-15 minutes.

  2. Prepare the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions (about 4 oz each). Gently shape them into loose balls without overworking the meat.

  3. Oil the Griddle: Lightly coat the griddle surface with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.

  4. Smash the Burgers: Place each beef ball on the griddle. Using a spatula and a flat press (or a second spatula), firmly smash each ball into a thin patty. Season generously with salt and pepper.

  5. Cook the Patties: Cook for 2-3 minutes on the first side until a crispy crust forms. Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on each one. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts and the patties are cooked through.

  6. Toast the Buns: While the patties cook, place the hamburger buns cut-side down on the griddle to toast lightly.

  7. Assemble the Burgers: Place the cooked patties on the toasted buns and add your favorite toppings. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pat of butter to the griddle when toasting the buns.

  • If you prefer a thicker burger, skip the smash technique and cook the patties for a longer time.

  • Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for food safety.
